Patriot’s Most Anticipated Games of 2023

Though every new year bringing a new slate of exciting, 2023 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest years in recent memory. Between the many highly anticipated debuts, exciting sequels to withstanding series, high-profile remakes and possibly game-changing entries into future franchises, this is an exciting time to be a gamer.

In this article, Patriot has compiled some of our most anticipated games coming that we’ll be standing in line for this year.

Hogwarts: Legacy

After 9 years have passed since the last game within the Potterverse was released, Hogwarts: Legacy is coming to give fans a taste of being their own character at Hogwarts. As an open-world RPG, fans can expect an immersive world full of exciting magic and new Potterverse lore that puts you at the center of the universe.

Hogwarts: Legacy will release on February 10, 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.  

Dead Island 2

After over a decade of speculation and teasers, Dead Island 2 is finally coming. The popular zombie series will pick up where it left off where you and other characters try to survive a horde of zombies set in an overrun Los Angeles, California.

With more zombies, weapons, combat, new characters and open world to explore, Dead Island 2 is sure to put a fun spin on the beloved series.

Dead Island 2 will release on April 28, 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC 

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

After an incredibly successful release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019 and new expansions of the Star Wars universe after the end of the Skywalker Saga, Cal Kestis’ story will be continuing in 2023. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will expand on telling the story of one of the last remaining Jedi as the Empire expands their control over the universe.

With both new and familiar ground explored in Fallen Order and plenty more to discover in the Star Wars universe, there’s no telling what Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has in store.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release on March 17, 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Resident Evil 4 (Remake)

Capcom continues their streak of updating the Resident Evil series with its newest next-gen upgrade for Resident Evil 4. Touted as one of the greatest horror games ever created, Resident Evil 4 will be released with a stunning 4K resolution and 60 FPS upscale that “preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics to make this the latest survival horror game where life and deach, terror and catharsis intersect.”

Resident Evil 4 will release on March 24, 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Coming off the heels of the highly anticipated and successful release of Avatar: The Way of Water and the official confirmation of 3 more Avatar films, we’re not ready to leave Pandora just yet.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an open-world adventure game that looks to build on the expansive world of Pandora through the eyes of the Na’vi and journey through new parts to stop the RDA from destroying their home.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora does not have a public release date as of yet, but is rumored to be released in the first half of 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna and PC.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

After a 6-year run with its first entry into a modern open-world approach with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link is back for another adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Though not much is known about the game yet, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will continue Link’s story of exploring Hyrule that takes him to new places in the skies and offer their most expansive sotry yet.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will release on May 12, 2023. It will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. 

Street Fighter 6

The longtime fighting game franchise is back! With their newest entry into the series following up 2016’s Street Fighter V, Capcom looks to expand their franchise to new heights with more characters, game modes and a haul of new combat systems sure to please their competitive, hardcore and mainstream fans alike.

Street Fighter 6 will release on June 1, 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Diablo IV

A longtime trailblazer in the world of RPGs and hack-and-slash games, Diablo is finally back with their 4th entry into the series and the first since 2012.

Diablo IV will have plenty of love for both seasoned and new fans to the series, such as familiar game mechanics, endless loot to grind for, a lengthy campaign to complete by yourself or with friends, and a massive open world to explore and trade. Diablo IV will also host PVP zones to test players’ abilities and offer cross-platform and cross-progression play.

Diablo IV will release on June 2, 2023. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Final Fantasy XVI

After years of teasers and a lengthy 7-year gap between its previous game, the next mainline entry into the beloved Final Fantasy series is coming in 2023. 

Final Fantasy XVI will follow the story of Clive Rosfield in an epic decades-sprawling story that follows Rosfield from his teens into his 30s as he tries to protect the realms of Vasilthea amongst political and outside conflict. 

Not only will Final Fantasy XVI look to once again redefine their RPG anthology series, but it will also descend into a darker storyline that marks it as the first M-rated game in the Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy XVI will release on June 22, 2023. It will be available as a PS5 exclusive in 2023, but will release for PC in early 2024.

Starfield

Since its first previews in 2018, Starfield has been one of the most long anticipated games from Bethesda Studios. As the creators of some of the best and most popular RPGs of all time with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, Starfield could be the next great game in their canon.

Set in space in the distant future, Starfield will allow you to explore the galaxy, meet different factions, visit faraway planets, and help build unity after a war on an epic journey Bethesda says will ultimately “answer humanity’s greatest mystery”.

With very little public information available yet, what we do know is enough to warrant plenty of excitement.

Starfield does not have a public release date as of yet, but is rumored to be released in the first half of 2023. Starfield will be available for Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake was not very popular upon its 2010 release, but it has since gained a strong cult following and has become a sleeper hit over time for its episodic psychological thriller centered around Wake, a popular writer involved in the mystery of his wife’s disappearance.

After over a decade of rumors, cancellations and pushbacks, Remedy Entertainment has finally announced its upcoming release. While almost nothing is known about the game or its story, Remedy has stated that Alan Wake 2 will be a survival horror game that retains its beloved psychological horror elements. 

Alan Wake 2 does not have a public release date as of yet, but Remedy has confirmed its 2023 release. Alan Wake 2 will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Perhaps one of the most anticipated games of all of 2023, Marvel’s Spider Man 2 will continue the story of Parker Peter and Miles Morales built on by the first game released in 2018 and Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020.

Though very little is known about the game yet, what we do know from small teasers and images is that Venom will be a key villain in this story of rebuilding New York City after the events of the first game. It is also believed that other villains and key characters may be appearing to expand this universe, with many theorizing that Kraven the Hunter, Green Goblin and Harry Osborn could all play crucial introductory roles.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does not have a public release date as of yet, but is rumored to be released in the second half of 2023. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released as a PS5 exclusive title.

The Wolf Among Us 2

Telltale Games was a major player throughout the 2010s with their interactive episodic storytelling games associated with popular IPs, such as The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands, Batman: The Telltale Series, and The Wolf Among Us.

After the studio’s closure and relaunch with LCG Entertainment, The Wolf Among Us 2 was teased in 2019 and is finally receiving a tentative release in 2023. Following the events of the first game based on the DC Comics series Fables, Fabletown’s Sheriff Bigby returns with a new case threatening “to cross the line between Fabletown and the NYPD” and will drastically alter the entire world of the game.

With this entry, Telltale Games will launch the game to follow their previous episodic release model and release new chapters in increments. Telltale Games says that they will be developing the full game before its release as to avoid any delays or long waits for each chapter.

The Wolf Among Us 2 does not have a public release date as of yet, but Telltale Games has confirmed its 2023 release.  It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
