How to Uninstall Windows 11 Update Causing SSD Performance Issues

On March 14, 2023, Microsoft officially released their latest Moment 2 (2H22/KB5023706) update for Windows 11 to deliver new features and patches for their current operating systems. 

However, since its launch, many users have reported that the new Moment 2 update has been causing significant performance problems with SSDs, resulting in much slower read and write speeds, OS loading times, game loading times and overall game performance. Most notably, it appears that NVMe SSDs have been the most commonly affected storage solutions with this update.

As one Reddit user shows when testing their SSD performance before and after this update, write speeds have significantly decreased by half their regular performance in SEQ1M Q8T1 and by nearly 1200 MB/s in SE0128K Q32T1, while read speeds also drop by a notable margin.

Currently, Patriot is working with testing teams to assess any potential impact on Patriot SSDs with this update. However, if updated systems are experiencing SSD performance issues, one current solution is to uninstall the new update to test if performance improves. 

Users can uninstall the update by following these steps:

1. Right-click the Start button and open Settings. 

2. At the bottom-left of the Settings page, click the Windows Update section. 

3. Click Update History. This can also be found by going to the Search bar, typing "Windows Update History" and clicking View Update History. 

4. Scroll down and click on the Uninstall Updates section.

5. Select the most recent update entitled "KB5023706". Confirm your selection and uninstall the update. 

6. Following the uninstallation, users will now revert to the previous Windows 11 update and avoid further SSD performance issues caused by the Moment 2 update.
